All total, we play on 16 different flutes in varying combinations.
2 Piccolos
The piccolo plays 1 octave higher than the concert C flute.
1 E-flat Flute
The E-flat flute sounds 1½ steps above the written note and the three-octave range is from the E-flat just above middle C to the E-flat three octaves above that.
9 C Flutes
The 'C' flute, or concert flute, is the flute with which most people are familiar.
2 Alto Flutes
The alto flute is in the key of G, pitched one fourth lower than the C flute
1 Bass Flute
The bass flute is pitched a full octave lower than the C flute.
1 Contrabass
Flute
The contrabass flute is pitched two octaves lower then the C flute. Here is a photo of one of our members, Ann Pearce, playing this gigantic instrument.
