RAFA Silver Pipes and Fantasy

Policies of Presence, Punctuality, and Preparedness (AKA: "The Three "P's")

Entrance into the Silver Pipes and Fantasy will be by audition only. Once accepted into the ensemble members will be expected to:

  • Attend all rehearsals.
  • Be ready to play at the established rehearsal time.
  • Prepare by practicing music outside of rehearsal.

Auditions:

Audition requirements may change each semester at the discretion of the director. Check the RAFA website for the most current requirements.

Auditions need to be scheduled with the director. No walk-ins will be accepted.

The director reserves the prerogative to re-audition individual members at the beginning of a new semester. The director also reserves the prerogative to re-audition any members who have left the choir for more than one semester.

Your Presence:

Pipes and Fantasy members will be asked to review the semester schedule BEFORE paying the semester choir fee. If you are unable to commit to the rehearsal/performance schedule, we encourage you to join the Silver Winds for the semester and pay choir fees for that ensemble instead.

While we accept that you have a busy life outside of the RAFA Pipes and Fantasy choirs, all members need to understand that when they agree to become part of a flute choir, they make a commitment to one another. When members are absent the entire choir suffers because they cannot hear the missing part. Therefore, members of the Pipes and Fantasy will be allowed one missed rehearsal per semester. If you miss more than one rehearsal you will be dropped from the Pipes' and Fantasy's roster and your part reassigned.

Punctuality:

Pipes and Fantasy members will be expected to be ready to play at the scheduled rehearsal time. Arriving late two or more times will be counted as an absence.

Preparedness:

We expect members of the Pipes and Fantasy to come to rehearsals prepared. You need to bring a pencil, your instrument, music (after the first rehearsal) and a music stand.

Pipes and Fantasy members will be expected to learn difficult passages outside of rehearsals. The choirs' time together needs to focus on learning how the parts fit together and how to make the piece musical. Rehearsal time is not about learning how to count your music or to correct wrong notes.

If a Fantasy member cannot attend a concert, he or she will be asked to pay $50 so that we can hire a professional player to fill in.

You will be asked to sign a statement at the beginning of the semester indicating that you accept, understand, and agree to follow the Pipes' Policies.
